The Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center is an 11,500 square foot facility that began operation in May of 1991. Approved as part of the 1986 Bond Referendum, the Center is intended to serve the needs of High Point's large and growing population adults age 50 and older. The Center is named for former High Point Mayor, Roy B. Culler, Jr., who was instrumental in it's development.
The Center is certified by the State of North Carolina as a Center of Excellence.
The Center offers a variety of programs and activities. Types of programs and classes to watch for include exercise, arts and crafts, movies, guest speakers, health screenings, club meetings, parties, holiday celebrations, cultural events, entertainment and much more. The Senior Center houses a game room, space for crafts, activities, a craft shop, and multi-purpose meeting rooms. The offices of the Senior Resources of Guilford are also located at the center. A local farmer's market operates in the center's parking lot May through October on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
Volunteers are key to the success of the Center. Some of the areas where volunteers are needed most include program or class leaders, assistants leaders, craft shop attendants, health screening personnel, receptionists and information and referral desk attendants.
The Center is open Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm, evenings and weekends when programs are scheduled and other times by appointment.
Some areas of the Senior Center may be rented for private functions by contacting the Center Director.

| AHOY Adult Exercise Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10a.m. Instructor: Nona Sink, Lois Harris Exercises appropriate for Seniors to include gentle stretching, range of motion and light cardio movement/low impact aerobics.

| Bingo Wednesday 1p.m. Fee:$1.00 per person Come out and play Bingo every Wednesday. You play 2 cards for 2 hours. There are a variety of Bingo games. Prizes include small household items and foods. The Bingo group is looking for prizes; if you want to donate call the Center at 883-3584.

| Blood Pressure Screenings Monday 9:30-11a.m. Free blood pressure checks on each Monday of the month, except 5th Monday. Blood Pressure is checked on a drop in basis. Forms are provided to track weekly readings. Screenings will not be done on holidays when the Senior Center is closed.

| Bowling Monday 1p.m. Fee:$1.00 per game Instructor: Effie Gay Bowlers meet every Monday afternoon at Brunswick Tarheel Lanes for fun and fellowship. This is an opportunity to meet new friends. Whether you are a beginner or advanced bowler, join in on the fun. Fee includes shoes.

| Bridge - Social Thursday 9:15am Play bridge with people that are knowledgeable of the game and have experience. Group meets every Thursday.

| Castle McCulloch Christmas Walk Tuesday December 14, 2010 Fee:$12.00 per person Enjoy an evening trip to Castle McCulloch Christmas lights walk. You walk outside and stop at certain sections to hear stories, carolers, and singers. Once inside the castle, Santa greets you and there are more displays. More details will be available soon.

You will be trained how to act accordingly and follow the appropriate steps to help save a life. You will learn how to look for signs and respond to different situations such as victims suffering from a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stoke and choking; as well as deal with injuries, allergic reactions and seizures. | Happytones Senior Chorus Tuesday 11:30a.m. A chorus of seniors directed by Anne Eaton. Sing a variety of musical arrangements. There are no tryouts. If you like to have fun, enjoy social interaction and can put on a "happy face", then come to a rehearsal.

| House in the Horseshoe and Southern Supreme Fruitcake Trip Wednesday November 10, 2010 8a.m.-5p.m. Fee:$10.00 per person The House of the Horseshoe (ca. 1770) was named for its location on a horseshoe bend in the Deep River. It's walls still bear numerous scars and bullet holes from a Revolutionary War skirmish. It is a typical 18th century, 2-story plantation house distinguished by the elaborate doorways and interior woodwork. The interior is furnished with fine, late colonial and early Federal-period pieces. We will have lunch at "the Old Place" buffet. Restaurant has a CASH ONLY policy with the cost of the buffet at $13.95 per person, which includes food, drink and dessert. After lunch we will visit the Supreme Fruitcake Company that offers fruitcakes, nuts, candies, chocolates, jellies, baked goods, beverage and more. It is a family oriented business that is internationally known as a mail order gourmet food company. Registration fee includes transportation. Cost of lunch and shopping purchases are on your own.

| Legal Aid Friday 1-4p.m. Diane Brady with Legal Aid of North Carolina meets with seniors by appointment only. Diane assists in providing simple wills, power of attorney and health care power of attorney. This is a free service provided to seniors and their family. | Line Dancing Tuesday 2-3p.m. Instructor: Lois Harris Various line dances are taught that includes a lot of movement and exercise. The class is open to anyone with some line dancing experience. The class also has performances periodically at various nursing and retirement homes.

| Living Healthy with Chronic Conditions Thursday September 23, 2010 - October 28, 2010 1:30-4p.m. Instructor: Connie Lawson Informational Poster This is an evidence based class that provides information on self-management of Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema and other chronic conditions. If you are living with one of these diseases, this class is for you. It will provide skills and tools to live a more healthy life with chronic conditions. Our instructor is a Guilford County Public Health Department Community Health Educator. The class is free and a student workbook will be given to everyone who attends all six classes. The workbook is available for loan for those who do not attend all the classes or it can be purchased for $25.00.

Airy, NC that includes an interesting history of the area, the world's largest open-face granite quarry, replica of Wally's Service Station, Mayberry Courthouse and Jail, Emmit's Fit-it Shop, Floyd's Barber Shop, and more. If time allows, we will visit the gravesite and history of Eng and Chang Bunker, the original Siamese twins. Lunch will be your choice of downtown Mt. Airy restaurants. The "Hill" features a stronger than average pull to the north, which causes some of our basic laws of physics to work differently. Come with us and check out this strange phenomenon. We will have lunch at the Daniel Boone Inn that features family style eating for $18.80 per person. Price covers lunch, tax and tip and they accept cash or check only. | Nancy's Candy Company, Mabry Mills Restaurant & Chateau Morrisette Winery Trip Friday October 22, 2010 8a.m.-5p.m. Fee:$20.00 per person Visit Nancy's Candy Factory and Outlet Store just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. We will have lunch and tour the historic Mabry Mill and Restaurant. Mabry Mill was originally built in 1910 and has a water powered grist mill, saw mill, blacksmith shop, sorghum mill, soap making kettle and an "old time" whisky still. | Transportation Museum and Salisbury Heritage Tour Thursday September 30, 2010 8:30a.m.-5p.m. Fee:$20.00 per person Join us for a trip to Spencer, NC to see trains, automobiles, aviation and more. There is a 25 minute train ride available for $6.00, and a spin on the 100' turntable for $1.00 that turns locomotives in the right direction to enter and exit the 37 stall roundhouse. We will have lunch at Cracker Barrel. After lunch we will take a self-guided walking tour of Historic Salisbury that will take us through two of the city's ten districts. The tour covers approximately 27 blocks (about 2 miles) and takes about 1 1/2 hour. Comfortable shoes are recommended for this trip. Registration fee includes transportation. Cost of lunch, rides and purchases are on your own.
