Park Rangers
The City of High Point Parks & Recreation Park Rangers Department dates back to the early 1970's when there were only two Park Rangers employed. One worked at City Lake Park and the other at Oak Hollow Park. The main duties of the Park Rangers at that time were to assist citizens with fishing at the lakes and parking vehicles at special events.
During the mid 1970's as more people visited Oak Hollow Park and City Lake Park, there were more Park Rangers employed to assist the citizens at these locations.
During the late 1970's as High Point grew and expanded in area, so did the Parks & Recreation Department parks system. During these years the Parks & Recreation Department saw a need for an organized park patrol unit to patrol all city parks and park facilities. In 1977, High Point Park Rangers underwent a structure change and became a citywide park patrol unit patrolling all the City Parks & Recreation facilities.
The Park Ranger currently staffs one Chief and four patrol Rangers that patrol over 50 parks and facilities, including the Greenway Trail System, for the department.
Our mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable park system for all our citizens by dedicated and consistent patrols of all parks and recreation facilities by car, foot and boat, thereby insuring citizens a safe time while visiting our facilities.
Our duties include assisting park visitors with information about the City and the Parks & Recreation Department, patrolling all Parks & Recreation facilities and providing security, law enforcement and traffic control at special events. Because at times it becomes necessary to enforce some laws for safety purposes, all Park Rangers are certified by the State of North Carolina to make arrests and issue citations for any City, State or Federal law violations.
High Point Park Rangers are dedicated to serve all citizens who visit our parks and our goal is to make sure everyone has a safe, pleasant and enjoyable time.
