The Johnson Street Disc Golf Course was created in 1991.  The course is part of the NC points series event with over 20 courses included in a year long points series from February-November.  There are open shots as well as tunnel shots throughout it's 18 acres.  The holes range from 165 feet to approximately 500 feet. There are three tee pads per hole, esentially giving you 54 different holes to play at various degrees of difficulty.

This very challenging course offers a dense forest with rolling fairways and some elevation changes.  Some throws are tunnel shots through utility right-of-ways. Hole 18 is the longest measured hole and is all uphill, a true test even for the top pros.  The course is equipped with 18 Mach III targets, 51 concrete tee pads and 3 holes use an alternate basket in the longest layout.  10 holes measure under 300', 7 between 300-400' and 1 over 400' on the blue set-up.  The course is measured in feet; shorts:  4,210', longs:  5,240' and the gold course is 6,360'.  The parks facilities include a port-o-john and picnic shelter.  There is no running water or electricty and any dog must be on a leash.  Operational hours are from dawn to dusk.

The local Disc Golf Club runs weekly tournaments throughout the year.  Sundays at 11:00am for singles and 2:30pm for random draw doubles.  During the summer months weekly events are also run on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings starting at 6:00pm.  There is a minimal cost assocated with each event and prizes are awarded.

This is a growing sport nationwide.  North Carolina has approximately 100 courses, both private and public throughout the state.  Disc Golf is free to play unless you are entering a tournament.  You will need to purchase a disc(s) to participate.

If you need more information or are interested in lessons, please contact Tim Spurgeon at (336) 883-3506.  Tim can assist you with rules, etiquette and basic techniques to get you out in the park to have some fun and enjoy nature while playing Disc Golf.
