Open registration for players and cheerleaders will begin on June 16. Football players must be at least 7 years of age on or before July 31. Mighty Mites (ages 7-9), weight limit 55-110 pounds. Mites (ages 10-12), weight limit 90-140 pounds. Teen Time: Leadershape - Deep River Recreation CenterMonday-Friday7:30a.m.-6p.m. Fee:$60.00 per person/per week The theme for this summer is "Leadershape". Youth in grades 6-10 will have the opportunity to participate in different leadership building activities and field trips. Campers will engage in community service projects, public speaking workshops, team building workshops and college campus tours. Falls are the leading cause of unintentional deaths. Many have developed a fear of falling. Fear limits their activities, leading to reduced mobility, reduced physical fitness and increases actual risks of falling. This is an award winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels in older adults. The class is interactive and addresses behavior changes and provides opportunity for exercise. Teens and Tobacco - Allen Jay Recreation CenterThursdayJuly 30, 2009 7p.m. Many teenagers are experimenting with the use of tobacco and have no idea of the dangers which lie ahead of them. This class will teach teens the dangers and risks associated with the use of tobacco. The effect of smoking, smokeless tobacco and second hand smoke will be discussed in detail. Teens will also get a chance to see firsthand how Emphysema and tar filled lungs create breathing problems and place limits on physical activity. |
Young Rembrandts (evening session) - Deep River Recreation CenterMonday-FridayJuly 20, 2009 - July 24, 2009 6-7:30p.m. Fee:$40.00 per person Deadline for enrollment: 07/03/09 This pastel art camp focuses on three different artists. We will create an original pastel drawing to replicate a famous artist's masterpiece. We will draw a colorful goldfish bowl as Henri Matisse did in his "Goldfish" painting. We will recreate Vincent van Gogh's famous "Starry Night" complete with swirls throughout the sky. On our final day, we will create a powerful still life full of robust color as Paul Cezanne did often in his paintings. Each day will challenge us with the pastel media. The program goal is to help each participant train for and complete a 5-kilometer road race while also promoting healthy living. Each program session will incorporate physical and mental training. Each week the participants will study a different topic that is aimed towards character building. Examples of these topics include sportsmanship, caring and responsibility. Each session during the week will also have a different theme that is designed to teach the participants life skills. Examples of these life skills include nutrition, self defense and proper and healthy exercise techniques. At the completion of the 10-week training, each participant will be given the opportunity to complete the 5-kilometer road race. Parents and family members are permitted and encouraged to complete the road race with their child. The race date is set by GO FAR and will be announced during training. |

Teams will have practices at Morehead Recreation Center on Fridays at 6p.m. and travel to different cities to compete in double-header games on selected Saturdays. Home games are double-headers and will be played at Allen Jay Park. The end of year tournament will be played in High Point at West End Park.
