Adult Men's and Women's Basketball League - AthleticsFee:$440.00 per teamAdult Basketball will include Open, Recreational, Church and Industrial leagues. Leagues will play a minimum 12-game schedule with a single elimination tournament. Trophies will be awarded to team regular season champion with 12 individuals, team regular season runner-up, team tournament champion with 12 individuals, team tournament runner-up. NFHS basketball rules will be followed with modifications. Season will be held December 3 - February 19. Deadline for entry is November 29. |

At this time the staff would like the community to help us meet a goal of 10,000 pennies, which equals $100.00. 2009 Black History EXPO - Morehead Recreation CenterSaturdayFebruary 28, 2009 10a.m.-4p.m. Morehead Recreation Center and the High Point Public Library will be presenting a 2009 Black History EXPO. There will be a Children's Corner, authors and activities, African American history displays, speakers, local agencies, sister's book club discussion, vendors, people with small business. A vendor fee of $10.00 will apply. Vendors must pre-register by February 20. Concessions to include hot dogs, popcorn and drinks will be for sale. Musical entertainment will also be provided. |
5 Stars for 5 Steps Planning Program - Southside Recreation CenterThursdays6-7p.m. A program for rising 9-12 graders that is designed to make sure high school students are on the right track by taking the right classes to enter college. This program will work closely with 12th graders as they get ready to fill out their financial aid and college applications. We will meet on Thursday after report cards are distributed by the Guilford County School System. Facilitators for this program include staff from the Fairview Family Resource Center, NC A&T State University and Southside Recreation Center. |

Basic commands such as sit and stay, ways to walk with your dog, as well as socialization with other dogs and people are taught. Owners leave the class with a set of tools to better train their dogs. Participants must bring the pet's shot record, a 6' non-retractable leash, a choke collar and treats. |

Project of Love: Bears & Bracelets - Morehead Recreation CenterTuesdayDecember 23, 2008 10a.m. Sixth grade students from Welborn Academy of Science and Technology will make inspirational bracelets from beads that read dream, hope, pray, love, etc. Bead packets will also be put together and taken to Brenner's Childrens Hospital so the children there can make bracelets. The AHOY group from Morehead will assist the students in making the bracelets. Containers will be placed at our Recreation Center sites for donations of stuffed animals to be delivered to Brenner's Childrens Hospital. A staff person from Welborn Academy and Morehead will deliver the beads and stuffed animals. |

Previous research has shown that people who enroll in a program and begin exercising experience decreased pain and stiffness in their joints. If you are 50 years of age or better, do not exercise regularly and have stiffness in your lower joints, this program is for you. This class meets three days per week for 8 weeks. Ankle weights, exercise bands and a participant manual is included. Each session is taught by a certified teacher. Thanks to a grant from the Center for Research on Health and Aging, University of Illinois at Chicago, we are able to offer this program for only $25.00 per person. Trip to Castle McCulloch Christmas Castle - Special PopulationsThursdayDecember 4, 2008 5:30-8:30p.m. Fee:$11.00 - Adults; $7.00 - Children Deadline for enrollment: 11/24/08 Get into the Christmas spirit. This trip will involve walking the grounds and through the castle, which will be decorated in beautiful Christmas lights. Holiday craft vendors will also be present. Please plan to bring enough money for entry to the castle and any purchases desired at the craft vendors. Dinner should be eaten prior to the trip. Vans will depart from Morehead Recreation Center at 5:30pm. |
