Major Marty Sumner
Assistant Chief Marty Sumner serves as Chief of Staff. Major Sumner heads up the Major Crime Deterrence & Prevention section, a new Division created to align personnel and operations in direct support of the Department's successful and innovative Violent Crime and Street Drug Offender Notification initiatives. By unifying those units with direct involvement under one command structure, this alignment ensures that intelligence will be quickly shared for immediate response, and that any action taken will be both appropriate and well-coordinated.
The Major Crimes Section, commanded by Captain Larry Casterline, reports to Major Sumner. Divisions in this section include the department's Crime Analyst, the Violent Crimes Unit (formerly Person's Crimes) consisting of 12 detectives including the Gang Detectives and their Lieutenant; the Housing Authority Unit (6 officers and a Lieutenant); and the Street Crimes Unit (6 officers and a Lieutenant). The Vice/Narcotics Unit ( 8 detectives, 2 ABC officers, a Lieutenant, one Captain) as well as the Evidence & Property Unit report to Major Sumner. The Crimestoppers Coordinator and Police Planner/Budget Analyst report directly to Major Sumner
