Explorer Post #94
The High Point Police Explorer Post is a youth organization within the High Point Police Department.
Young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21 learn about a career in law enforcement. While in the process of learning, members contribute many hours of free service to the police department. The program is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America. Membership is open to young adults in greater High Point who meet minimum eligibility requirements, such as passing grades, good moral character, and a clean criminal record. Most participants plan a career in law enforcement, but such plans are not necessary.
In addition to community service projects, Explorers assist with traffic and crowd control at various events and participate in the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway project on West Wendover Avenue between High Point and Greensboro. Members may participate in the department's ´ride along' program in order to observe police officers in the performance of their duties. While riding, Explorers also assist officers with duties that can be handled by a non-sworn employee.
Our Explorers regularly attend state and national competitions for valuable training and critiques by federal law enforcement officials.
Jermaine Parson is Post President, and Officer Vince Harris is the senior advisor for the Post. Our Explorer Post has produced six law enforcement officers for Piedmont North Carolina agencies within the past four years. This is a great program in which to get involved! If you would like to support this program or would like more information, call 336-888-6857
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Post members participate in several community service activities throughout the year, including fingerprinting children at public events and traffic control for city activities. Involvement and interaction with the citizens of High Point play an important role to the Post.
