Museum Wins Second Award for its African American Gallery Guide
The Southeastern Museum Conference (SEMC) selected the High Point Museum's African American Gallery Guide as the Silver award winner in its 19th Annual Publication Design Competition. Winners were announced and displayed at the SEMC conference, which took place in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
In entering the African American Gallery Guide in the educational package category, the High Point Museum competed with other museums throughout the Southeas. Some, with operating budgets over four times that of the High Point Museum.
Competition Co-Coordinator and Director of the Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forest University, Stephen Whittington explained that a panel of three judges selected competition winners. Entries were judged based on content, design and usability.
This is the second award the Museum has received for its Gallery Guide. Judges from the American Association of Museums Publications Design Competition awarded the Museum Honorable Mention in a competition, which took place in 2006.
"We are grateful to those community members who supported us in this endeavor, and we are pleased the Gallery Guide is being received so well in both our own community and in the museum profession," commented Museum President Barbara Taylor.
