Fire Department Operations Division
Fire Department Operations Division
The Operations Division is the largest division of the High Point Fire Department. There are currently 202 personnel assigned to this division that rotate working twenty-four (24) hour shifts. Personnel assigned to the Operations Division are currently staffing nineteen (19) front line emergency vehicles, which include 13 Engines, 3 Ladders, and 3 Squads. They respond from fourteen (14) fire stations strategically located throughout the city. These same personnel function in multiple roles as members of our "Specialty Teams." These teams include Haz-Mat, High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse Rescue and Water Rescue. There is no shortage of work for Operations personnel. Their days are full with station and apparatus maintenance, fire inspections, building familiarizations, hours of required training to maintain certifications, and of course their most important responsibility, emergency response.
In July 2005, Engine 12 (formerly Engine 18) and Engine 26 were officially added to our fleet. Although these Engines were in service at Stations #12 and #26, they were actually a part of Deep River and Colfax Fire Departments respectively. For several years we have shared facilities and productive partnerships. Along with Engine 12, Deep River Fire Department turned over all other equipment and its fire protection responsibilities to High Point Fire Department. We hope Chief Duncan is enjoying his retirement and we extend a special thanks to all the other firefighters that selflessly served the Deep River Fire Protection District for many years. Colfax Fire Department also turned over Station 26 and its service area to High Point Fire Department in July 2005. Our continued partnership with Colfax Fire Department has proven to be beneficial to both communities.
As you can see from our partnerships, firefighters have no problem working along side personnel from other jurisdictions. Horneytown, Hasty, Jamestown, and Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire Departments, all adjoining neighbors, have also agreed to assist us in areas that are closer to their stations, as we have them. Fire Departments have always had mutual aid agreements to assist each other when needed, but our communities have taken mutual aid to another level in the form of automatic aid. You can rest assured that firefighters are ready to assist regardless of jurisdictional boundaries, and for that reason, don't be alarmed if you see firefighters other that those wearing the High Point uniform respond to alarms. It is our commitment to this community to provide the best level of fire service and response possible.
