Throughout the last several years, extensive research has been applied to the planning and development of The City Project. Board and committee members have reviewed case studies on downtown revitalization processes and even visited cities that successfully undertook similar projects. Last year, a group of board members made trips to Greenville, SC and Salisbury, NC to meet with city officials and major players in the redevelopment of the downtown areas of both places. This research allowed The City Project leaders to use a model plan for our own initiative, capitalizing on the unique features of High Point.
Several ongoing research initiatves are currently underway across the core. A survey has been submitted to students and patrons of the South Main/GTCC district to help The City Project leaders develop a better understanding of the needs and interests of the people who frequent this area. Funding for a traffic study of N. Main Street are currently being sought after so developments and "street scaping" projects may proceed in the near future.
